Prudent

Yesterday, the Government knew there was a critical vote in Parliament. So why did Gordon Brown fly to Israel only to get on the next plane home to Vote in the House of Commons this afternoon.

How much public money has been wasted on the "mile high" Joy Ride

Given that he did not conclude any Government business on this trip, but is returning on Labour Party business, should he pay for this flight himself.

If not, then it should be recognised that this is a clear breach of Part 1 Section 4 of the Ministerial Code

Ministers' Constituency and Party Interests.
4.1 It is wrong in principle for Ministers to use for Party or constituency work facilities provided at Government expense to enable them to carry out their official duties.

UPDATE

Dear Anoneumouse
Thank you for your email to Michael Howard. He has asked me to reply to you on his behalf.

It was kind of you to write. Mr Howard attaches considerable importance to the views that are put to him and your comments regarding Gordon Brown's shortened trip have been carefully noted.

Yours sincerely,

David Beal

Office of the Leader of the Opposition
