POLITICIANS should show a bit of humility and deference to voters as they campaign for a 'yes' vote in the EU Treaty Referendum, Irish Europe Minister Dick Roche warned yesterday. (Independent.ie )

He said that if they showed any arrogance, they risked a repeat of the first rejection of the Nice Treaty.

Mr Roche who is Bertie Aherns' (the Irish Taoiseach) mouth piece on the EU said that people should not try to scare or coerce Irish voters into backing it.

Brown visits bush

'I have surely seen the affliction of My people that are in Europe, and have heard their cry by reason of their taskmasters; for I know their pains;

and I am come down to deliver them out of the hand of the Europeans, and to bring them up out of that land unto a good land and a large, unto a land flowing with milk and honey.....

And now, behold, the cry of the children of Britain is come unto Me; moreover I have seen the oppression wherewith the Europeans oppress them.

Come now therefore, and I will send thee unto Emperor Barroleon, that thou mayest bring forth My people the children of Britain out of Europe

And Gordon said unto God: 'Who am I, that I should go unto the Emperor, and that I should bring forth the children of Britain out of Europe?

maladministration in the commission

Peter Mandelson, has been the subject of an official rebuke after refusing to reveal details of meetings with industry lobbyists. The EU’s watchdog issued the formal censure last week after a two-year investigation into Mandelson’s refusal to name the lobbyists he had met. (Sunday Times)

Mandelson the EU Trade Commissioner, was twice forced to resign as a British government minister for failing to disclose crucial information.

The first was when he was involved in a secret financial arrangement with his government colleague Geoffrey Robinson concerning a loan of £373,000 to buy his London home.

The second was 'the passport for favours' controversy, when he helped one of the controversial Indian Hinduja brothers, who was facing corruption charges at the time, to obtain British citizenship after he and his brother agreed to donate £1 million to bail out the Millennium Dome.

Is Gordon Brown really blind in one eye?

There were six men of Euroland,
to learning much inclined,
Who went to see an elephant,
though all of them were blind,
That each by observation
might satisfy his mind.

The first approached the elephant,
and happening to fall
Against his broad and sturdy side,
at once began to bawl,
"This mystery of an elephant
is very like a wall."

German Chancellor Angela Merkel
“The fundamentals of the Constitution have been maintained in large part… We have renounced everything that makes people think of a state, like the flag and the national anthem.”(El Pais (25 June)

The second, feeling of the tusk,
cried, "Ho, what have we here,
So very round and smooth and sharp?
To me 'tis mighty clear,
This wonder of an elephant
is very like a spear."

UK Minister for Europe Jim Murphy: The Treaty establishing a Constitution for Europe, on which the Government proposed a referendum, is now defunct. The mandate for a Reform Treaty agreed by the European Council states clearly:“The constitutional concept, which consisted in repealing all existing Treaties and replacing them by a single text called “Constitution”, is abandoned”.As my right hon. Friend the then Prime Minister (Mr. Tony Blair) set out in his statement to Parliament on 25 June, the Reform Treaty will differ fundamentally from the Constitutional Treaty in both form and substance. (Hansard (10 July)

The third approached the elephant,
and happening to take
The squirming trunk within his hands,
thus boldly up and spake,
"I see," quoth he,
"the elephant is very like a snake."

Irish Taoiseach Bertie Ahern
“Given the fact that there was strong legal advice that the draft constitution in 2004 would require a referendum in Ireland, and given the fact that these changes haven't made any dramatic change to the substance of what was agreed back in 2004, I think it is likely that a referendum will be held... thankfully they haven't changed the substance - 90 per cent of it is still there."

The fourth reached out an eager hand,
and felt above the knee,
"What this most wondrous beast
is like is very plain" said he,
"'Tis clear enough the elephant
is very like a tree."

Spanish Prime Minister Jose Zapatero
"A great part of the content of the European Constitution is captured in the new treaties”, Zapatero said. “Everyone has conceded a little so that we all gain a lot”, added Zapatero. (El Pais (25 June).

The fifth who chanced to touch the ear
said, "E'en the blindest man
Can tell what this resembles most;
deny the fact who can;
This marvel of an elephant
is very like a fan."

UK Prime M inister Gordon Brown
Let me just read from the mandate agreed at the Council: "The constitutional concept, which consisted in repealing all existing Treaties and replacing them by a single text called 'Constitution', is abandoned." That was the decision made at the intergovernmental conference in Brussels.. (Hansard 25 July)

The sixth no sooner had begun
about the beast to grope,
Than seizing on the swinging tail
that fell within his scope;
"I see," said he, "the elephant
is very like a rope."

Danish PM Anders Fogh Rasmussen
“The good thing is...that all the symbolic elements are gone, and that which really matters – the core - is left." (Jyllands-Posten (25 June)

So six blind men of Euroland
disputed loud and long,
Each in his own opinion
exceeding stiff and strong;
Though each was partly in the right,
they all were in the wrong!

Finland’s Europe Minister Astrid Thors: “There’s nothing from the original institutional package that has been changed” (TV-Nytt, (23 June)

French President Nicolas Sarkozy has claimed victory, saying, “This was France’s idea from the start.” (Libération (25 June)

MORAL

Never stand behind an elephant (Anoneumouse)
Hat tip: John Godfrey Saxe ( 1816-1887)

So, oft in theologic wars
The disputants, I ween,
Rail on in utter ignorance
Of what each other mean;
And prate about an Elephant
Not one of them has seen!

Do you want mayonnaise on your chips?

Yesterday the EU charged Intel Corp. with monopoly abuse for customer rebates and below-cost pricing and said those actions undercut smaller rival computer chipmakers.

The company has 10 weeks to respond before the EU makes a final decision that could fine Intel up to 10 per cent of global revenue for each year it broke the law. Its sales last year were $36 billion.

What the arseholes in the EU commission fail to realise is, that In the EU euro zone, a Big Mac hamburger sells for about three euros – roughly $4 at the current exchange rate – but in the USA the same Big Mac is only $3 implying that the euro is overvalued by about 25%.

Do you want, French or American fries with that?, they are all chips to me.

"Clunking fist" Envoy for Middle east

Gordon Brown is to appoint his own Middle East envoy

According to the Guardian, Michael Williams, a former BBC journalist and currently a special coordinator for the regional peace process for the UN Secretary General, Ban Ki-moon, is expected to be confirmed in the job next week,

According to the Guardian report, the appointment could lead to a potential clash with the work of Tony Blair, who has been recently appointed special envoy of the so-called Mideast Quartet, consisting of the US, EU, UN and Russia.

IZAL 277 Sheets

The European Union new "reform" treaty is now up on the Council site. Including the main text (145 pages), the protocols (69 pages) – which are legally binding – and the declarations (63 pages), the whole production comes to a whopping 277 pages.

There are two common methods of installing toilet paper rolls on to a toilet roll holder. Often a matter for some debate, which can be a contentious issue in many households who have individuals who have opposing viewpoints.

1-Edge of the roll facing away

The first method of installation has the edge of the roll facing away from the wall. This method allows the defecator easy access to grab the toilet paper and pull off the desired amount of paper, as it spins off the roll toward the user.

2-Edge of roll facing wall

The second method of installation has the edge of the roll facing the wall. This method is a bit more difficult for the defecator to grab the toilet paper, as the roll spins, it spins away from the user. An advantage to this method is, it is difficult for toddlers, it is less likely to have the toilet paper spun off the roll.

It is the Constitution, all they have done is turned the roll around.

Cameron in the mist

The Conservative leader David Cameron arrives in Rwanda today

There have been suggestions that a handful of Tory backbenchers have demanded a vote of no confidence in his leadership.

But Mr Cameron has said he will not "retreat into the comfort zone" of traditional Tory policies and will stick to his strategy of moving the Conservatives toward the political centre ground.

Sign the pledge

Guido Faweks has More details but in essence

This is an exploratory initiative to judge the level of support that exists for the launching of a private prosecution of those who were investigated under Operation Ribble under suspicion of committing offences under the Honours (Prevention of Abuses) Act 1925. There are a number of related suspected offences under the Political Parties, Elections and Referendums Act 2000 governing the evasion of restrictions on donations which provide a firm and clear basis for action. A prosecution on this basis would avoid the difficulties of having to prove a conspiracy. It would also have the advantage that there are statements from donors already in the public domain which, contrary to the stated view of the CPS, exclude the possibility that the loans were made, or intended to be made, on a commercial basis.

Pledge makers are not committed to anything at this stage, this is merely to test the level of support there is for such an enterprise.

You can sign by clicking Here

Come on........how can it not be in the public interest, for the public to prosecute sleazy politicians?

Emperor Barroleon

Britain was told yesterday that it was part of a new European empire — by the Brussels bureaucrat who would be emperor. José Manuel Barroso, President of the European Commission, said that all 27 EU members should be proud of their unique union. “At least we in the Commission are proud of it.” The Times

".....We have the dimension of empire but there is a difference. Empires were made with force with a centre imposing diktat. “Now what we have is the first non-imperial empire. We have 27 countries that fully decided to work together and to pool their sovereignty. I believe it is a great construction and we should be proud of it.”
